Must Know Words

From my experience, the best way to introduce words and make sure the students remember the words is by drilling. For that, I prepared a list of words that the students must read everyday. Here are the words.

You can download the source file HERE. I do not own any of the pictures. All of the pictures are taken from google images.

Things a teacher must have

From my experience, a teacher who teach Year 1 must be fully prepared (physically and mentally) before step into the classroom. These 7 years old children will absolutely test our limit. Some of them may facing the first time away from their parents (cry out loud) and the rest would like to show of their talent ( talking non-stop). I've been through all that and luckily I still survived.

A few years ago when I went into a class , I have to bring things that can weight up to 10 kilos.
  • a daily lesson plan book
  • a folder containing curriculum standards, yearly plan, worksheets sample etc
  • a laptop
  • a projector
  • an extension wire
  • a speaker (sometimes)
  • worksheets
  • teaching and learning resources (tlr)
  • sometimes exercise books
But all that things are in the past. Nowadays, I just need:
  • a sling bag (to put my ipad and iphone)
  • a projector
Everything can be keep on the cloud. Everything is up there. By the way I'm using Google Drive. No more kilos of burden to be carried on my shoulder. The projector that I use are wifi ready (no VGA or HDMI cable required).

Here, I would like to share the things that I keep in my cloud. I really hope it can benefit someone out there.

Things to bear in mind..

As stated in the document standard, the aim of teaching English in the primary school is to equip students with basic language skills to enable them to communicate effectively in a variety of contexts that is appropriate to the pupils’ level of development. According to Piaget (1954), 7 years old children are in Concrete Phase where the children start to have the ability to use logical thought or operation. However the logic can be only be apply on physical objects.

Here are the milestone to expect from the children as stated by www.greatschools.org:
  • uses a vocabulary of several thousand words
  • demonstrates a longer attention span
  • uses serious, logical thinking; is thoughtful and reflective
  • able to understand reasoning and make the right decisions
  • can tell time; knows the days, months, and seasons
  • can describe points of similarity between two objects
  • begins to grasp that letters represent the sounds that form words
  • able to solve more complex problems
  • individual learning style becomes more clear-cut
As for that, every teacher including me must apply a few strategies to make sure the effectives of every lesson. First, a teacher  must make sure that teaching/learning experience is fun, meaningful and purposeful. Second, every lesson must cater each students' need (refer to multiple intelligent) and must always using student-centered learning. Lastly, a teacher must aware that the students were born and live in IT world. A teacher must incorporate IT devices in lessons.
